Gospel literature is available (bibles, booklets and tracts) from GFA and the Nepali Bible Society at a cheap price and tracts are often given freely to those who would like to distribute them. Within the Kathmandu and tourist trekking places, large areas have had track distribution over many years and even still Nepalis and Expiates continue to do so with considerable effect . However, the general Nepali in Kathmandu are becoming use to these ‘Christian’ activities. And greater success has come from more visible activities directly addressing the problems ordinary people face on a daily basis.
But the simple truth is tract distribution works and with the use of strategic approaches will continue to. Presented here is one example of how tract distribution could be used to share the gospel in a specific area.
Strategic Example
- Target an specific area for a campaign or a people group.
- Go to the area and begin praying through it
- Map the area out physically and spiritually looking for which people groups live in the area, social issues, which gods are worshipped in the area, and any relevant history
- As you do this meet the local Christian leaders in the area, pray with them and seek to partner with them
- Work with them to plan your outreach and a possible showing of the Jesus Film
- Begin tracting your area. Moving along the streets and depending on the area, door to door. Meet and talk with interested people. Importantly remember that your tract is the Word of God and see it as a talking point not just a piece of paper you are placing in someone’s hand
- While handing out tracts advertise and invite people to a coming showing of the Jesus Film or relevant evangelical video or gathering.
- Link up the people who attend with the Christians in the area, give bible literature to those who show interest (with an ad for a free correspondence course)
Hints for tract distribution
- Use your right hand to share and give the tracts
- Use the tract as a talking point rather than a present
- Consider your dress and manner
- Do not be ashamed of the gospel – you are sharing life
- Know your tract, read it or a translation of it that you can understand
- Supply a correspondence address with your tract so their recipient can follow it up when you have left the area
- Carry bible portions and bibles with you to follow up interested people
- Try to work alongside local believers handing out tracts with them so people are connected to the believers in the area
